With an amazing cast and an even more amazing plot 12 Monkeys grossed a total of a hundred and sixty-eight million dollars after being given a budget of twenty-nine and a half million dollars to produce it. To date, it is considered one of the best movies that Bruce Willis has ever acted in, in fact, he even received a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the 12 Monkeys.
The movie 12 Monkeys is based in the future after the world has been forced underground following an outbreak of a deadly virus that was released in the five continents of the of the planet in the year 1997. The movie was released in the year 1995 and involves a man from the future James Cole, played by Bruce Willis, who is sent back to the past a various amount of times to get information and possibly a sample of the plague that was spread thirty eight years earlier from the present day of the movie which is in the year 2035.
When James is initially sent back to the past, he arrives six years earlier in the city of Baltimore and then is consequentially arrested and sent to a mental asylum where he is being reviewed by Dr. Kathryn who has been doing her own research on time travel. Cole tries to explain that he is from the future but the doctors judging him do not believe him so then he dials a number he has been given but since he has reached before his expected time the number belongs to another family and is useless in proving his story.
In the course of the move Cole befriends an inmate Jeffery who helps him escape by creating a riot in the asylum after which he tracks down Dr. Kathryn so she can help him locate the army of the 12 Monkeys which are believed to be responsible for the virus.
