It is no classical wonderland, it is post 9/11 era and SyFy’s Alice is no more a child, she is all grown up into a 20 years old brunette and teaches Martial Arts. SyFy miniseries ‘Alice’is an effort to transform Carrol Lewis’s “Alice in Wonderland’ to show all the “Malice” in contemporary land. The character of Alice is played by Caterina Scorsone. In an interview the actess told that her favorite sequence from the miniseries is when she is brought in the court of the “Queen of Hearts”. Alice in the scene is shown facing the Queen who pompously declares ‘I am the most powerful woman in English literature.’
Alice teaches martial arts and develops feelings for one of her students but the feelings have not blown up to the point where she can tie knots. As the student proposes her, she is not yet ready to accept the proposal. Things become complex as the ‘Queen of Hearts’ abducts the student. Queem of Hearts is Kathie Bates who has won Oscar for ‘Misery’. Watch her in the video below, delivering her dialogues superbly. Queen of Hearts is shown to be abducting humans to steal their pleasant emotions. Queen has a son whose wife is a hooker.
Hatter is transformed into the Alice’s bodyguard and is helping her to find her love. The modern wonderland is infested with all types of weapons of destruction like guns etc and during all the drama being played around her SyFy’s Alice is to some hard lessons about life.
