Allanah Benton-Wells, an elementary school teacher, has been found guilty of having sexual relationship with a student. What a shame!
The report first appeared in the front pages of many online news channels in August 2008 when the 43-year-old school teacher, Allanah Benton-Wells, was accused of having sex with a school boy. Allanah Benton-Wells, a former teacher at Williams Elementary School was supposed to be tutoring the boy at her home. Reportedly, the boy told a fellow student that he had intercourse with Benton-Wells at her residence. But the matter came to the attention of authorities when the boy’s mother intercepted a telephone conversation between her son and Benton-Wells. She found it suspicious and informed the principal. The school principal discussed the matter with the Flint police who started an investigation to dig deeper into the matter. The victim boy testified against Allanah Benton-Wells during a preliminary hearing in September 2008 and told the jury that she has sexual encounters with him in October 2007.
A jury found Allanah Benton-Wells accountable of two counts of first-degree illicit sexual conduct with a person aged under 13.
The Genesee County Prosecutor, David Leyton, says that Benton-Wells faces a minimum sentence of 25 years in jail. She will be sentenced on February 11.
Allanah Benton-Wells is divorced and a mother of twin boys aging 19-months. She has two more sons in their 20s.
She was suspended from Flint Community Schools on administrative leave and then fired earlier this month.
