Amish language or the Pennsylvania German language is spoken by approximately two hundred and fifty thousand people in the North American population. The Amish language speaker consists of only people living in small portion. Amish language is currently spoken in the Canada and the United States itself. It is a mixture of different languages such as the Indo-European family. Similarities are found between the German language and the Amish language or the Pennsylvanian language. Many words of the Amish language are taken from the English language. Only the people from the older generations speak the Amish language which is expected to be finished in the years to come.
Sometimes the combined English and German touch in the language helps some American people to also understand the language. The people who speak Amish language usually don’t write in their daily usage. Amish language speaker are quite smooth in German language. In America the Kutztown University offers the study of the Amish language. There area some differences in the grammar of the Amish language as compared to the English language.
The pronunciation of the words also differs in the Amish language. Poetry and prose are also published in the Amish language. The Amish language speakers are known to be trilingual. The Amish language is usually spoken in the rural areas of America and even some parts of the Germany where people migrated due to language issues. Amish language has almost lost its identity with most of the other languages in the world. It’s feared that it will no longer survive.
