Andre Bauer the Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina has apologized for his comments comparing people benefiting from public assistance to stray animals. He had related his grandmother’s instructions about not to feed the stray animals as they will breed and produce more stray animals. He said feeding a stray animal or man is just like facilitating the problem. His comment has opened a heated debate.
Andre Bauer has expressed his regrets and explained that his intention was not to humiliate people. He just wanted to point out that the public assistance raises the rate of dependency that is unwanted as the assistance is funded by the tax money. He also suggested that public assistance should be negated to those who take drugs or those who don’t attend the parent teacher meetings. Andre Bauer’s message sounds cruel but it may have made its score with some of the tax payers. The US people are already disappointed with big public spending and rising level of unemployment. The Massachusetts election was also won by a republican on the same grounds that Govt. should cut its expenses in the times of depression.
Bauer is blamed of hypocrisy because he is a divorce child and was a beneficiary of free lunch scheme in school days.
The advocate of breaking the dependency cycle claims that bad scores of students benefiting from free lunch add to his point. Bauer a claims to be a conservative Christian by faith but does not consider all human beings have equal rights.
Bauer hopes to be a republican candidate for governor of South Carolina.
