Ed Thomas, whose team at tiny Aplington-Parkersburg High School in Iowa created more than two hundreds wins and as a minimum four N.F.L. players, he was shot and murdered in an off-season workout at the schools at Wednesday.
Thomas, who was 58 years old, had been providing coaching at the school for approximately 34 years, but at the last session he might have been the most stirring. Eight humans were died and dozens of houses were ruined including Thomas. From the time John branch profiled Thomas last June as he aimed to get his team ready for the season.
The man was in custody of the police who once played for Thomas at the school; his name is Mark Becker, he is 24 years of age. Mark was arrested by the police under the charge of first degree murder. After he went on high speed car and police were on his way, there is still some ambiguity whether Becker should have been in a psychiatric ward.
The room where the Thomas was killed was weight room. Hundreds of people cast out at the school’s football field Wednesday night for a prayer and in the memories of them.
“Obviously, with the shocking events of today, nothing can prepare you for what our family and the community is going through,” Thomas’s son, Aaron, said at an afternoon news conference.
He asked people to keep Becker’s family in their thoughts.
“We ask that people pray for them as well, as they are also going through a lot,” he said.
Brad meester of the jaguars who was one of the students of Thomas said:
“He treated each and every one of us like we were his kids. He truly did care for each and every one of us and that’s one of the greatest things about him that will always be remembered. I know that each of us who have been through that program and been with him will take so much from that and everything that he’s taught us about being a man we take into our everyday life. We’re able to take that into life with our families, with our job and we thank him for that”.
