During fly fishing at PORT Erin’s “Gillham fishing Resort” Phil Bell-Scott caught a remarkable 250 pounder Arapaima Fish in Thailand, not only that but he caught another stunning. 340 pounder same day and that is impressive. These two are the biggest freshwater Arapaima Fish to be caught on fly. It took them almost 2 hours to land the 340 pound fish.
Phil Bell Scott who is an emergency services joint control room operator, used a 10 weight custom made fly rod made by himself the rod is comparatively light for big fish. A production company crew from San Francisco was present in the area filming some program they have filmed both of Arapaima Fish caught by Phil.
The Arapaima fish is one of the biggest freshwater fish species in the world. The fish is also known as the “Pirarucu”.
Arapaima fish can reach to an extraordinary length of 450 CM or 177.17 Inches the fish is only to be found in the Amazon River Basin in South America it can reach up to 200 Kg or 440 Pounds in weight.
Arapaima Fish is the most popular food in South America and it is also well-liked between sport fishers the mouth watering thing about this fish is that almost 50 % of her total body weight is made up by meat and it has no bones at all. Mostly Arapaima fishes are caught, sold and consumed in Brazil. The reproductive cycle for Arapaima fish starts in February, March or April depending on seasons.
