Former World Champion Boxer Arturo Gatti’s wife is in Brazilian Police custody, Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues was arrested on Saturday 11 July, 2009, she is suspected to kill her husband while on their second honeymoon in Brazil. Former Boxing Champion was found dead on early Saturday morning in a seaside apartment at Port de Galinhas beach resort in northeast Brazil, which they rented for days ago while on their second honeymoon.
According to a police spokesperson Arturo Gatti was strangled to death with the strap of a handbag, which belong to Arturo Gatti’s 23-year-old wife, she sustained a head injury during the incident; moreover, bloodstains were all over the strap of the handbag, which was discovered in the apartment by the police.
The former boxing champion was 37-year-old at the time of his death, Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues a Brazilian, was detained after she was unable to explain that how she spend over ten hours in the apartment without realizing that her husband Arturo Gatti 37, is dead, police said.
According to reports the couple dined on Friday evening at resorts bar where they were staying; former Boxer and him wife Amanda Carina Barbosa argued while they were drunk, during the argue Arturo Gatti pushed his wife injuring her elbow, Josedith Ferreira an official with Brazilian police who interviewed the suspect said.
Arturo Gatti announced his retirement in 2007 after he was defeated by Alfonso Gómez.
