As if AT&T was not previously awful enough has now started filtering/blocked 4Chan’s “/b/moot & /r9k/” board for their numerous DSL subscribers. It seems like AT&T has declared war against image-board 4chan and this is enough to spark an internet insurgence everywhere for sure.
Few immensely popular image-boards on 4chan website have been filtered/blocked by AT&T including /r9k/ and the well-known /b/ moot, the owner of the site has posted a note saying that they have been trying to confirm from AT&T about the matter, the blog indicates that AT&T has blocked the service and over 50 million users are experiencing this problem.
According to a report the service has been blocked only for DSL customers, almost 16% of all Americans internet users use AT&T DSL service and it simply means that over 50 million users are blocked, whereas “3G wireless” customers seems to be unaffected.
Reports regarding filtering/blocking started to surf on reddit yesterday afternoon and several bloggers picked up the story although no one have managed to get comments from AT&T regarding the matter.
In my opinion filtering/blocking any website is an intense violation of user trust, but blocking the specific potions and a particular site seems like a stupid decision. The important question is not that AT&T has blocked 4chan, the question is why have they filtered/blocked the image-board now and not before? Is there is some third party involved in this decision?
