Autoerotic asphyxiation is a type of autoeroticism in which a person deliberately cutting off oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal or for solo sexual activity. People who carry-out autoeroticism are known as “gaspers” in the BDSM society and are often male, gay and straight.
BDSM is a complicated short form originated from the terms “bondage & discipline” “dominance & submission”, “sadism & masochism”. BDSM comprises an extensive range of activities, type of interpersonal relations, and distinct sub-culture. Whereas not always explicitly sexual in nature, the activities and relations inside a BDSM context are approximately constantly eroticized by the member in some manner. Many of these practices drop outside of conservative sexual actions and individual relations.
The strange conditions surrounding the demise of actor “David Carradine” have put the secretive games of autoeroticism back in the highlight. Demise of INXS front man Michael Hutchence in 1997 put autoeroticism in the headlines of every tabloid in world with the proposition that he died while engaging in autoerotic asphyxiation because of the similarity between two deaths.
According to history the practice of autoerotic asphyxiation has been recognized near the beginning 1600s. It was first used as a cure for erectile dysfunction and impotence.
