Otherwise named Jessica Morales nee McClure, Baby Jessica is the toddler who got stuck in a well just a few months after she was born. Baby Jessica fell down a well located in Midland, Texas on the fourteenth of October in the year 1987 and was trapped underneath for more than two days as rescue workers spent a total of fifty-eight hours to recover her in good health.
Baby Jessica was a year and a half old when she slipped down an eight-inch opening in the well casing. The rescuers had to use the technology of waterjet cutting to create an opening large enough for rescue workers to make their way down to the level that Baby Jessica was stuck at.
In the year 1989 a movie was made on the story of Baby Jessica which was produced by the channel ABC. It is believed that CNN, which is one of the leading news network channels of the world today, got its fame from the incident which it was covering throughout its entire duration. The incident was watched by people from around the world and it spread the sense of unity amongst the Americans after the president of America, Ronald Reagan at the time, expressed his sentiments that we were all godparents of the child.
Scott Shaw, who was a reporter for the newspaper Odessa American, won a Pulitzer Prize a year after the incident for taking a photo of Baby Jessica after she had been rescued. The prize was given to him under the title of spot news photography.
