Barry Sonnenfeld has publicly said that he once filmed 9 porn movies in 9 days. Starting his career from pornography he went on to make films like Men in Black. Having spent many of his school days going to films instead of classes, graduating from New York University of Film School, was natural to him. He had made friends with Joel and Ethan Coen while at New York University of Film School. In order to earn some money he started doing sexually explicit work. His work on “Blood Simple” in 1984 came as he started collaborating with Coen brothers. He did two others with Joel and Ethan – Raising Arizona and Miller’s Crossing. Barry Sonnenfield lent his talent to the films Throw Momma From the Train, When Harry Met Sally and Misery.
Orion Pictures gave him the first film to direct..The Addams Family was a successful film, released in 1991. As much successful as The Adams family was, it was Get Shorty in 1995 that proved to be his biggest smash. The interesting part of the Get Shorty story is that it gave John Travolta’s career the support it required at that moment. He played the role of a loan collector. He was in the limelight and was in great demand. Steven Spielberg gave him Men in Black, it proved not only a hit in terms of its popularity but for the dollar it earned also.
Came 2002, Barry Sonnenfeld did Big Trouble and a sequel of Men in Black or M.I.B for short. His most recent job is thought to be a comedy which he is doing for Sony Pictures TV.
