Beast of Kandahar, an aircraft, which was photographed in Afghanistan in 2007, is a surveillance aircraft, confirms US Air Force.
According to the details, the drone aircraft which previously could be seen in photos only is actually an aircraft of US Air Force and the USAF has confirmed its existence. According to the officials, US Air Force was looking for a technology on which the ground forces could rely for its surveillance characteristics. RQ-170 Sentinel, generally known as Beast of Kandahar, is an unmanned aerial vehicle which provides the technical support to the troops appointed on grounds.
The photos of Beast of Kandahar were first published in a French blog few days ago. Previously, the photos were often published in the news papers as it was seen flying in the Afghan Territory. The tail-less aircraft has a 65 feet long wing and have sensor pods installed in the upper edge of the wings. The Beast of Kandahar contains no weapons and is part of the ‘RQ’- type aircrafts. Beast of Kandahar is an unofficial name given to RQ-170 Sentinel as it was first deployed in Afghanistan. It has been manufactured by Lockheed Martin, a company which provides major security technology to the US Defense Department.
Not many details are available about the technology employed in the craft. In fact, the existence of the aircraft was a mystery until the news was confirmed by the officials formally. The photos of the Beast of Kandahar are available on internet.
