Russ Meyer has been called “240 pounds of creative energy” and 1970 film “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” has Drama, Romance, Music and above all the creative energy of Russ Meyer. The plot is woven around the lives of three young women Kelly MacNamara, Casey Anderson and Petronella. All unique but tied together by fate. “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” is the story of a rock band three women form together, named Kelly Affair? The band manager is Harris.
The story of the film “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” kicks off when Kelly decides to visit her aunt Susan with the band members. Susan is a wealthy woman and wants to share her wealth with her niece. However her manager has other plans and does not want that to happen at all. As Susan learns about their abilities, she introduces the band to Ronnie. Ronnie arranges a performance of the band in a party. The performance goes so well that Ronnie becomes their manager and even changes the name of the band to one which he thinks appropriate.
Now Kelly is friends with Harris but goes on to develop liking for a male prostitute. Petronella develops a love affair with a law student Emerson and Casey starts a homosexual relationship with a dress designer Roxanne.
In a tables turned event Kelly’s former boyfriend Harris tries to commit suicide. He is saved but goes limp. The incident is enough for Kelly to revert to Harris.
“Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” ends with lesbians Casey and Roxanne being killed, Kelly marrying Harris and Petronella tying knots with law student Emerson.
