Bill Owens wins the elections and makes place in senate.
Bill Owens, Democrat and a seasonal politician, won the elections which were held to elect a house member for the vacant seat in the US house cabinet. 60-years-old Bill Owens succeeded in the elections by defeating Republican’s John McHugh. For the record, John McHugh was named secretary of the army by President Barack Obama.
More than 90 percent of the votes have been counted yet and the result shows a clear victory to Bill Owens. Bill Owens was in the race with three more candidates; Doug Hoffman of the Conservative Party, John McHugh of the Republican, and Dede Scozzafava of the Republicans. Dede Scozzafava, who received 6 percent votes, withdrew from the elections on October 31 and endorsed Bill Owens for the elections. Doug Hoffman was the second lead candidate in the elections. Owens and Hoffman won 49 and 45 percent of votes respectively. With Owens’ success, Democrats holds 27 seats out of 29 seats of New York in the US House. The Republican lost three seats from the House in year 2008. Bill Owens is the first candidate in the House who comes from the northeast side of the New York.
The second lead candidate, Doug Hoffman, commented on the election results and said that even they didn’t win the elections, his party sent a strong message and have laid powerful basis for the future elections.
Talking about campaigns, financially Owen spent the most number of dollars for his election campaign. According to a report, Owen spent $880,000 while Scozzafava spent $342,000, and Hoffman spent more than $502,000 in the donations.
