Robert Stroud full name was “Robert Franklin Stroud”. He was better known to people by the name of “Birdman of Alcatraz”. He was the most popular inmate of all times who had lived in Alcatraz. Birdman of Alcatraz “Robert Franklin Stroud” killed a bartender in 1909 over a quarrel in which the bartender didn’t pay the prostitute to whom Birdman was pimping for. He was sentenced to 12 years in the federal prison.
While in the prison “Birdman of Alcatraz” brutally battered a hospital orderly on another occasion he wounded a fellow prisoner, for his assaults on people he received an additional 6 months jail time. Birdman man was then transferred to “Leavenworth Federal Prison” in Kansas, due to constant complaints. Later in 1916 Birdman stabbed and killed a prison guard for refusing the visit from his younger brother, he was sentenced to hang till death on the charges of murdering the guard. In 1920 President Woodrow Wilson converted “Birdman’s” death sentence to life in prison without parole.
In 1942 “Birdman of Alcatraz” was transported to Alcatraz, where he spent the next seventeen years of his life, after spending 6 years in Alcatraz and another 11 in the hospital he was sent to the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, Missouri in 1959. He was found dead on 21st of November, 1963 due to natural cause.
Yesterday on 29th April, 2009 “Birdman of Alcatraz” starring “Burt Lancaster” was presented on TV. Burt Lancaster has performed and portrayed the biography of “Robert Stroud” with passion manners, the murderer who became famous for his care of birds while serving his sentence in Alcatraz.
