Birkat hachama means “blessing of the sun” this is a Jewish blessing and is recited every 28 years for the appreciation of the sun according to Judaism sun completes its solar cycle every 28 years know as “the large cycle”.
Now according to the calculations April 8, 2009 is the day when sun completes its large cycle it mean today so Jews will be praying today on sundown because according to them sundown is the time when sun once again starts it large cycle and they want the blessing of the sun.
The rabbis of the Talmud or according to Jewish practice, the Sun was formed on the 4th day of the week of Creation because Jewish law believes the time unit of a day to distance from evening to evening. The inauguration of the halachic 4th day so they believe it was Tuesday evening at sundown.
The 28 year cycle for that reason starts and ends at the point in time when the Sun was formed. The Sun only returns to this same position at sundown on a Tuesday once every 28 years.
In spite of the exact calculations that follow, there is no harmonization of this prayer and the real astronomical point in time when the sun crosses the space equator, the imagery is no different than a condition in which the molad for Tishrei would fall out by day on a Sunday and Rosh Hashanah falls out on Monday.
The astronomical correctness of this festival aside, the push and message of this festival endures.
Beside this Jewish festival have we ever took a second, once, twice or three times in our life span, to see that how much we are dependent on this planet know as sun. If you just turn you face up and see how amazing, blazing ball know as sun in the sky which gives us light, warmth, comfort, and energy.
And then we turn and thank God to give us such gifts we even do not deserve.
