The BOK Center is also known by the natives of Oklahoma as the “Bank of Oklahoma Center”. The inauguration ceremony in the August of the year ’08 was blessed with the presence of the Hanson Brothers and country music guru Garth Brooks; both musical ensembles delivered powerful & vibrant performances at the BOK Center. The primary reason for inviting these music arena personalities to demonstrate the pride the natives of Oklahoma take in their local culture.
It was not an easy project for the authorities and the officials to construct the BOK Center. First off, the individual held responsible for designing the colossal BOK Center was no other than Cesar Pelli; the architecture genius who built the Malaysia based PETRONAS Towers. Second off, the initial budget assigned for the construction of the BOK Center was set at one hundred and seventy eight million US dollars. However, over heads and extra expenses added the toll of another eighteen million US dollars which had to be derived from private funding sources.
Once the required amount had been accounted for, it took another wearing thirty six months before the BOK Center was ready to be used. Once completed, the BOK Center was able to accommodate almost a capacity crowd of nineteen thousand and two hundred people at any given time. In present day times, the Bank of Oklahoma Center facility is utilized for holding events such as music concerts, basketball games, ice hockey matches and also events featuring arena football performances. The Tulsa Oilers use the BOK Center on a regular basis.
