Brook Astor was US socialite, philanthropist and the chairperson of the Vincent Astor Foundation, named and established by her third husband, Vincent Astor. Vincent Astor was the son of John Jacob Astor and grandson of America’s first multi-millionaire, John Jacob Astor. Brook Astor was the caretaker of various charity organizations after her husband’s death. She passed away in august 13, 2007 at the age of 105.
The only son of Brook Astor, 85-year-old Anthony Marshall was found guilty, on Thursday, of plundering his mother’s estate in her last days, she was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
In 2007, he was charged with burglary, illegal possession of stolen property and misrepresenting business reports tied to blunder towards his mother’s affluence, estimated to be valued about $200 million.
Anthony Marshall was convicted by New York state court jury on 14th, he was found guilty of 16 counts during his trial, spanning over 19 weeks, the jury perceived that Marshall and his lawyer, Francis Morrissey, had taken advantage of Mrs. Astor’s weakening mental and physical abilities and force her to change her will. Marshal could be imprisoned for 01 to 25 years in case of petitions failure. Marshal’s lawyer is also found guilty in the court of law for fraud and of faking Brooks Astor’s will.
Defense lawyers had argued Astor didn’t want to change her will, nor she was capable of doing so physically and mentally but she was forced to do so because she was realized and forced to feel guilty not been a more attentive mother.
Brook Astor had married Vincent Astor, and became the beneficiary to the real estate fortune of John Jacob Astor. She inherited almost $60 million, which grew over the years to about $195 million.
The court-martial has bursting the gossip pages and entranced New York’s high society because it’s reprehensible that the only son, who automatically has the right of his parent’s property, was convicted of overpowering.
