Bruce Springsteen along with Robert De Niro, Grace Bumbry, Dave Brubeck, and Mel Brooks have been honored at the Kennedy Center Honors.
‘I’m the president but he’s The Boss,’ said President Obama about Bruce Springsteen during the ceremony of awarding Kennedy Center Honors. Bruce Springsteen was one of the five artists who were honored at the 32nd Kennedy Center Honors.
The ceremony had its own exultant and emotional moments with the young presenters paying tributes to the honorees individually. The President and First Lady also graced the ceremony with their presence. The presenters included Meryl Streep, Jon Stewart, Sharon Stone, Aretha Franklin, and Sting. Caroline Kennedy Hosted the event. The ceremony took place on the 6th of December and was aired on CBS yesterday.
Bruce Springsteen was the last artist to be honored in the ceremony. An amusing speech by Jon Stewart of the Daily Show started the tribute to the singer-songwriter. He recalled how he used to sing Bruce Springsteen on his way back to home from work every night. Vietnam Veteran author Ron Kovic presented his gratitude to Springsteen for his work and later John Mellencamp, Ben Harper, Jennifer Nettles, and Melissa Etheridge performed the covers of Bruce Springsteen’s songs. Sting’s performance was the last who performed to pay a tribute to Springsteen.
Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor which is awarded to those performing artists who have contributed significantly to American culture through their work. The honors have been presented regularly since 1978. The ceremony is held at Kennedy Center Opera House and comprises of week-long performances for the honorees.
