Buncombe County Schools closed as weather gets colder.
Buncombe County Schools were closed in Buncombe and neighboring counties as winter brings heavy snowfalls in North Carolina. According to the National Weather Service, a mixture of rain and frozen precipitation will fall in the Ashville areas including Buncombe County, Henderson, Jackson, Haywood, McDowell, Transylvania, Madison, and Polk County. The National Weather Service has issued winter advisory for Buncombe and Ashville areas. Winter advisory is issued when the precipitation may affect travelling and commute. The winter advisory which issued after 6 a.m. will remain effective until 7 p.m. Saturday, December 19. According to the weather agencies, collision of moisture rising above Gulf of Mexico with cold temperatures of these counties could cause heavy snowfall. Almost 8 inches of snow could accumulate on the roads and streets. This consequent snowfall would bring the first major snow storm in North Carolina of this winter. The Western North Carolina region, which comprises of Buncombe, Madison, Ashville, Haywood, and neighboring counties, would be receive the maximum snowfall due to this wallop. It has been forecasted that snow would start on Friday morning and would continue till Saturday evening. Buncombe County and neighboring region may experience multiple snow storms in this winter.
Schools closings and Road Conditions
This week has brought chilly winds with a mixture of sleet and rain to Buncombe County and Ashville region. The Buncombe County schools were closed on Thursday. Buncombe County schools and Ashville administration are checking road conditions since 4 a.m. in the morning to decide whether classes should be held or not. Accumulated snow on the roads makes it difficult for schools buses to travel. No decision has been made yet; however, Buncombe County Schools have announced that the parents and teachers will be notified through text messages.
