A mentally ill lady appeared at Burlington Coat Factory in a limo yesterday stating that she has won a huge sum of money in a lottery and she would be spending $500 for each person at the coat factory. The customers, after listening to such an attractive offer, started rushing towards the racks to shop whatever they could. Many even phoned their relatives to reach the factory in order to get benefit from the lady’s lottery money. When the customers eventually got to know that it was just a hoax it caused a riot in the factory.
The interesting event happened on Wednesday when a lady came up in a hummed limo at the Burlington Coat Factory. She told the customers present there that she has just won a lottery of $1.5 million and that she would be more than happy to spend that money on the customers present in the factory. She announced that she would spend $500 per person and that they can shop whatever they want. Listening to this lucrative offer, the customers rushed to the store registers not knowing that the woman didn’t have ANY money.
The lady, named Linda Brown, even signed a cheque for a woman who asked her to pay for her rent instead of paying for her clothes. Linda also used her credit card for many customers and got a debt of $5,000 before she reached her credit card’s limit. Linda then moved out of the factory saying that she would return with more money from bank. When she returned empty handed, the angry mob which was determined to get the clothes caused a riot. It was so chaotic that the factory managers had to call police to control the stampede caused by the furious customers.
Linda Brown, the lady behind this stampede, was arrested with multiple warrants. However, the police has stated that she will not be charged against this riot until her mental health is not examined.
