Alsip, Illinois — Wednesday 08th July, 2009—The Burr Oak Cemetery a historic African-American graveyard became a site of horror story, when more than 100 human body remains were dug up from their graves to resell the plots. Workers including the Cemetery manager have dug up at least 100 graves and dumped the human body remains in mass graves at the back of the historic graveyard.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said that authorized personals working on the case were quite distressed,, he said they are questioning employees of Burr Oak Cemetery, but no one has been charged yet and investigators are working to find out how many plots have been resold.
Burr oak Cemetery is a 150-acre property situated in Village of Alsip, Illinois just 20 miles southwest of Chicago.
The police investigations started six weeks ago, when owner of Burr Oak Cemetery reported about the horror story, the owner said that an employee can to him after feeling guilty and revealed that it has been going on for past four years.
Emmett Till and her mother, Mamie Till Mobley were also buried in this graveyard in1955 Emmett Till was executed at the age of 14 and her lynching added momentum to the civil rights movement. Burr Oak Cemetery is also the final resting place for Ex-World heavyweight boxing champ Harlem Globetrotter Inman Jackson, Ezzard Charles, singer Dinah Washington, Otis Spann and numerous other African-American baseball players.
