The search for the survivors in an accident that involved a military AH-1 Super Cobra helicopter and Coast Guard’s C-130 Hercules plane continued throughout the night in an area west of San Diego.
The accident happened as the helicopter and plane came face to face with each other and collided in mid air.
Witnesses have reported seeing a ball of fire falling in the sea.
The accident happened in the evening on Thursday. There are total of nine people missing in the accident, seven of which were on the Coast Guard C-130 and the rest were onboard Military helicopter.
The rescue helicopters have reported a lot of debris in the area, however no survivor has been found as yet.
Federal Aviation Authority and other department trying to find survivors are very hopeful about finding at least some of the persons involved in the accident alive because the personnel onboard had gone extensive survival training especially to cope with the conditions like this.
Reportedly the downed helicopter belonged to the Marines based at Pendleton, whereas C-130 was carrying Coast Guards belonging to Sacramento.
The search and rescue mission is being carried out with the help of Jayhawk helicopters and navy boats.
In a separate statement Navy officials said that they are abandoning the search and rescue operation for two pilots who went missing as their training helicopter fell in the Ocean near the Gulf of Mexico.
The officials were of the view that the weather conditions in the area are not conducive to carry on the search and operation would resume once the weather clears.
