The movie that has inspired the creation of a cult was not just fiction, or so it is believed. “The Entity” a horror flick that was released in the early eighties is supposed to be based on a real life story. The character of Carla Moran is not just made up, some believe, but the gruesome history of a Californian citizen who had her house in the city of Culver. Carla Moran was the character in the movie who was repeatedly assaulted and raped by members of the unseen dimension – we call them ghosts.
Carla Moran was born in the annum of 1939 and her real name is Doris Bither. She was a mother of four who later shifted to Texas after having had enough of her traumatizing experiences with ghosts. When the incidents first started happening in the seventies Carla Moran was of the view that she might be suffering from a mental illness that made her see all these beings. She says that there were a total of twelve ghosts who made appearances, usually in threesomes, and were ruled by one entity who was more dominant and powerful than the rest.
When she first suffered from these paranormal assaults she got in touch with two doctors, Doctor Berry Taff and Doctor Kerry Gaynor who were doing research in Parapsychology by studying seemingly haunted houses. They later wrote a book on their experience at the Moran house where the got the chance to take a few pictures, from their Polaroid cameras, of the ghosts. The pictures, it was revealed, would come out as blank in the spots that the ghosts were reported to be. After the visit by the doctors the occurrences lessened in frequency but still happened which led Carla Moran to shift houses.
