Gay community criticizes President Bill Clinton for his decision to sign “Defense of Marriage Act” but he has also signed an executive order banning discrimination on sexual orientation basis. Ceara Sturgis’ case is nothing but discrimination on the basis of the sexual choices she made for herself. She is not the one to hide that she is lesbian. In fact everyone at her school knows about this. The controversy about Ceara Sturgis started when she wanted her picture in year book wearing a Tux. The school authorities totally refused to publish her picture in manly attire inviting the wrath of American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
ACLU pursuing the matter has issued a letter asking the principal of Wesson Attendance Center to explain the move. The deadline after which ACLU has warned to take the matter to court is set at 23rd October.
Sturgis is of the view that the refusal has made her feel as if nobody cares about her choices and she is not important for anybody. She has made it clear that she is naturally bent to act the way she did. The school authorities meanwhile have been reported to betrying to push their own agenda while Sturgis does not even own more feminine dresses.
Department of Education has made it clear that there are no state rules dealing with the issue. However if the case is taken to the court it is sure to evoke strong emotions among the gay community and the school authorities would be forced to accept Ceara Sturgis’ photograph in Tuxedo.
