Power failure is not a common scene in United States of America. The American power supplying companies are quite efficient. There are almost no failures in normal weather conditions. The power companies usually inform the customers about the shut downs.
Recently due to wind storm and heavy rains there has been a power shortage in the state of Maine.
The Central Maine Power company customers are facing a lot of problems due to power failures. The trees have fallen breaking the cables and resulting in power failure. A senior official from Central Maine Power Company stated that more than a hundred thousand people are without electricity supplies. This is the biggest power failure after last years storm in the same month. The company is trying to supply power to their customers but the problem is that the storm has not stopped yet.
There is a lot of water on the roads causing a situation like that of flood. There is heavy snow fall and many roads in the state are blocked. The officials have advised the residents not to drive on roads which have water on them as their cars might float away with the water. Another major problem being faced by Central Maine Power is that even if they allow electricity to pass through the power lines, many cables are soaked in water and may cause flow of current in the nearby water which can lead to many deaths. The people have been advised to stay at home and use their generators only when needed, after carefully reading the manuals.
