Wednesday’s cyclone left a 60-yard-wide scar of cracked trees, collapsed electricity lines and damaged houses as far as 2.5 miles surrounding to town in Chesterton, Indiana.
Tim Halbach, a meteorologist of National Weather Service, said that the storm stroke EF2 rank on the improved Fujita scale with projected highest winds of 120 mph, adding that the storm was so mighty, which cracked the trees available there at Chesterton.
Mike Orlich, Chesterton Fire Chief of Emergency Management, said that they are working for the assessment of loss caused by this storm. He said that our staff spent entire day for aerial survey and worked out the damages, which include 211 structures like accessory shops and garages, 54 are the major damages like falling of tree over the home roofs and 149 damages include missing siding. He informed that as many as 355 residents spent Thursday night without electric supply.
Middle School of Chesterton and an apartment structure at 3rd and Brown streets are the major buildings, which gain heavy damage. The authorities said that the apartment building assumed “disastrous damage”, as the roof of building’ 6th apartment was entirely torn away, with divisions dropped at nearby greeneries and lanes.
The Gymnasium’ roof of Middle School received huge damage and the classes of all Chesterton’ schools were suspended on Thursday because of this tornado. All the schools including the middle school have been reopened on Friday.
