Chinemelu Elonu bypassed his senior term to come in the NBA draft, which paid-off when world champion Los Angeles Lakers in the 59th over-all pick of the second round on Thursday night drafted him. Chinemelu Elonu decided last week to bypass his last year to be the part of NBA Draft after graduating in last May.
Eager to get in the superior position financially Los Angeles Lakers traded with New York Knicks their first two selections and obtain a 2011, 2nd rounder and $3 million in swap for the 29th pick then traded with Miami for the 42nd pick in exchange of another 2011, 2nd rounder and $1.5 million. But were unable to find anyone to trade their 59th pick, so they have to draft someone and that someone happened to be Chinemelu Elonu.
In the last season, Chinemelu Elonu’s average was 9.8 pts and team-best 7.3 rebounds with 53 blocks, which earned him admirable state All-Big 12 honors.
Talking to the media Chinemelu Elonu said that he was getting nervous when there were only few picks left, but decided to leave it on God. Moreover, he said that he was with several friends and family members at the time, they sported him all the way, and he said that it is an honor that NBA champions selected him.
