It was only last year that a tribe hitherto not been contacted or documented was discovered and pictured. Amazonian forest is rich in mysteries that science has not yet fully explored besides the area has its own mythology. Chullachaqui is one such mystery. It is the mythical spirit of forests that lures people to itself. As a visitor is attracted to a Chullachaqui, he is led to a place in jungle from where, there is no way back. To lure the people into its trap a Chullachaqui appears in the form a family member or relative. The person bewildered by the appearance of a loved one just follows Chullachaqui, totally unaware of the trap. As if in a trance the strayed person wakes up only after he observes that there is no way back and he is deep in the jungle. To attract the people to it, Chullachaqui challenges the people to have a fight with him. He who denies the challenge is believed to have invited a curse to himself and all things good would leave him soon.
It is possible that the folk lore of Chullachaqui is invented to keep the forest safe. As Amazonian forests are quickly diminishing, the natives would have invented the character to keep the people from cutting the forest. Another folk tale about the character says that Chullachaqui live very deep in the forest and are uninterested in humans, yet another theory is that they are basically primitive humans not fully evolved into human beings. Chullachaqui is also said to abduct human children to raise them to be a Chullachaqui like themselves.
