Today marks the independence day for the Mexicans and it lies on the fifth day of May which in the Spanish Language is called the Cinco de Mayo. With the coming of this day a lot of families are looking for Cinco de Mayo coloring pages for kids for they want their children and students to learn the history of the day in a way that is entertaining for them. It might be that you find your Cinco de Mayo coloring pages for kids but with a theme that might not suit your liking. The day is significant because the Battle of Puebla took place on this day and the Battle of Puebla is significant because it was one of those rare battles during the French invasion of Mexico that the Mexican army defeated the French army.
The French army was known for their tactics and advanced skills and they were advancing into central Mexico when they came across the city of Puebla at which they were confronted by the Mexican army of four thousand soldiers. The French army was twice the size and had better weapons to help them win but in the end they had to retreat due to the battle that the Mexican army put up.
The French retreated but later continued to advance into Mexico and they had won with the invasion by the end of it after which they placed an Emperor Maximilian into power over the Mexicans. The Americans had started pressurizing the French into vacating Mexico and after several years of pressure the French left and Maximilian was executed. So the Cinco de Mayo coloring pages for kids might be a bit gory for some.
