Coral Gables High School is located at the outskirts of downtown Miami. First period bell rang at about 9.00 a.m and students started moving to the period 2 classes. The incident occurred exactly between this interval. One student at Coral Gables high stabbed the other to death.
Name of the attacker and the attacked has not been revealed as yet but the attacker was taken into custody immediately and the situation seems to be fully under control. Footage from the helicopter showed the deceased student’s body covered in white sheets lying near a pool of blood.
The school has a total strength of 3,300 students. The gates were locked as the anxious parents gathered outside the school. Students were advised to stay inside the school premises, lunch and water were made available in the class rooms, however they were allowed to leave under parent’s custody. Psychologist trained to handle such situation was summoned to talk with teachers and students.
School administrators admitted about the incident, “toughest situations that any educator faces,” School superintendent emphasized the need of proper training at home and a strong civic sense.
School superintendent Alberto Caravalho condoled with the parents and said “Our collective hearts go out to the family of the victim”. Sharon Watson, another school spokesman assured that the parents of student who attacked and the student who died have been contacted and that the situation is completely under control.
