The guys like me grew up admiring Andre Agassi. Making him our hero. We grew hair like him, watched his matches with religious scrupulosity with each swing of tennis rackets being registered in our minds. This kind of worship is what makes it tough to live up to the dreams of the admirers and fans. His autobiography is due to hit the market on 9th November. Talking about his career he exploded the bomb shell that he indeed used Crystal Ball or Crystal meth street names for methamphetamine. A psychostimulant that gives instant feelings of euphoria and being energetic. As he failed the dope test he used the alibi that somebody mixed the drug in his drink. It was accepted and he never had to pay for the illegal action.
He has confessed that he was going through a rough patch and first resorted to alcohol and then to crystal ball but has said that there is nothing compared to the winning a tournament like Wimbledon.
As everybody is casting a doubt over the achievements of this master of the game, I think by openly confessing his misdeeds he has shown his human side. He was at the lowest point in his career having fallen to the position of 141. It would definitely have been a matter of grave concern for someone who has held the 1st position for such a long time. Moreover he was constantly under the examining eyes of his coach and father. The pressure had been too much for him.
To me he is still a hero. He could have kept it secret but by publicly admitting it, I think he has washed the blot off.
