Blackhawks fired General manager Dale Tallon. His release from the post of General Manager was first reported at late Monday night by Comcast Sportsnet in Chicago. Dale Tallon had been serving Blackhawks as General Manager since June 21, 2005; he had struggled and build the team to become a competitor for Stanley Cup.
Dale Tallon has the privilege to put together such a team in the form of Blackhawks that reached the playoffs of Western Conference during the 2008-09 season for the first time in past seven years and went on to play the finals too, but made a slight mistake when he send the qualifying proffers to restricted free agents last week, long after the closing date decided by NHL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement and this became the reason of his firing.
However, this was the final year of Dale Tallon’s contract and after the filing snafu last Wednesday his first comment was he is not going to ask for any extension. It simply means that he was not happy with the job and he would have gone anyway as soon as his contract would have expired next year. Since 1998 he has been the member of Blackhawks’ front office, he was appointed as director of player recruits at the start of the season.
It is greatly believed that Stan Bowman, who is the son of celebrated coach and present Blackhawks advisor Scotty Bowman, is going to be the next General Manager of the team; he has been an Assistant GM for over a decade now.
