A male student named Damon D. Thompson slashed the throat of a female student in a lab at UCLA on Thursday.
The incident happened in a chemistry lab at UCLA which was being conducted by a Teacher’s Assistant. According to an early statement of the witnesses, Thomas started punching the girl and then slashed her throat. According to a witness, initially it seemed a minor clash but then she slumped over and was bleeding from her neck. Another student, who was waiting outside the lab, told the police that she heard screams so loud that at first she thought someone has blown himself up with chemicals in the lab. Cyril Baida, who is also a teacher’s assistant and works in lab next door, told that he took the girl in his room where he helped the girl by gauzing her neck to stop bleeding. He also told that she was becoming pale and it seemed that she was passing out. He told that the injuries were very serious and thankfully, the university medical staff and police responded to their 911 calls immediately.
Police soon arrived at the campus and a text message was sent by the university administration to all the students and asked them to keep away from the lab. The lab is located in the Young Hall of the university. The victim was taken to Ronald Reagan medical center at UCLA immediately in a critical condition where she underwent a surgery. Doctors have now declared that her condition is improving.
Police filed a case against the alleged Damon D. Thompson on the charges of an attempted murder and arrested him minutes after the incident happened. No theory has been made about the reasons behind the clash, however, the police detectives say that they might have involved in a verbal confrontation before the stabbing. Both the students were seniors and might have remained lab partners.
The incident left many shocked and horrified. Students at the campus were seen consoling each other after the incident. This incident was second violent incident in two months. Last month, in a melee at an off-campus party three students were brutally injured.
