Dominick Cruz walked out of the cage last night with a belt around his waist that told it all to the viewers who were expecting a longer fight. Dominick Cruz fought against former cage fighting champion Brian Bowels who won his title in on the ninth of August last year by defeating Miguel Torres who had been the championship leader before then. Dominick Cruz became the leading contender after beating Joseph Benavidez and faced Bowels for the first time since August.
During the second round of the main event for the World Extreme Cagefighting competition Bowels apparently broke his hand after landing a heavy punch to Dominick Cruz. He says that he knew something was wrong as soon as he had landed his first punch and was preoccupied by the thought of his broken hand throughout the remainder of the contest. Although his hand might have been broken we cannot keep ourselves from giving Dominick Cruz his due share of credit who was running circles around Bowels.
Dominick Cruz told reporters that by the middle of it he had become accustomed to Bowels movements and rhythm and that he had the fight pretty much in his control. Cruz expressed his surprise over it ending the way it did after the second round when Bowels failed to respond to the bell introducing the next round. He was of the view that the fight would have ended within the next couple of rounds in his favor, it was either that or something else that would have brought the event to its conclusion.
