Droid is Motorola’s answer to Apple iPhone. I have been thinking about the name Droid and it struck me how things are changing quickly. Just a few years back every gadget came with the tag attached to it “Designed for Windows this and windows that”. Microsoft may not like the Google revolution but it is all around us. Droid is derivation of Android platform designed for mobile devices; more specifically Motorola Droid would run Google’s Android – 2 platform.
The Android operating system would be powered by an OMAP3430 processor. Verizon has not announced the exact launch date perhaps as a marketing tactic to keep people guessing but the website has an ad of the phone, giving a glimpse of the features of the phone. Droid Motorola ad alone has attracted much attention because of its criticism of iPhone. With the ad Verizon has launched a frontal attack on iPhone market. As the ad starts there are no graphics just black text coming into focus. The text points out all the things that iPhone cannot do or does not have. Like it cannot multi task, it does not have high resolution camera with night sensing mode and it does not allow software development, all the features that a Droid Motorola phone comes equipped with. Droid has a QWERTY sliding keyboard yet it also has touch screen capabilities.
Though the pictures of the phone released show a big touch screen (just like an Apple iPhone has) with a sliding keyboard, the people who have been able to use the phone are just ecstatic over the features! The news is in that the phone has passed FCC, we are waiting for the announcement of the launch date.
