Dugway proving ground is situated near Salt Lake City with an area of more than 800,000 acres. The installation is deemed as the most contentious one with a lot of hue and cry of the people. The residents living closer to the facility are apprehensive about the hidden operations that might have been taking place. The main objective of Dugway Proving Ground is to undertake technical testing. The types of tests which are conducted there relate to chemical and biological defense systems, incendiary and smoke systems. NGOs, US government, foreign governments are the interested parties of the facility. The afore-said parties are provided with the requisite training regarding tests. Not only this, Dugway is the biggest testing range for chemical and biological weapons’ test and the major contributor to the U.S. Department of Defense. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 made U.S armed forces to feel that they require an improved defense system scattered in many locations. Consequently, the development of chemical and biological weapons became inevitable. Dugway Proving Ground was licensed to fulfill the need for the purpose of testing these types of weapons and defense systems. There have been many ups and down for the facility in last many years with a lot of pauses and resumptions of chemical and biological operations. The facility stopped operations under one name and restarted with another. Anyways, Dugway facility is one of the most controversial sites due to potential hazard it may have for the people who live in its close proximity.
