Dunkaroos ad says it all. The product is aimed at the growing children and is manufactured to be high in calories to meet the energy needs of the children of the age of 10 years and onwards. Dunkaroos are kangaroo shaped cookies that are eaten by dipping them in ice cream, sauces or any other sugary syrup. The name Dunkaroos is indicative of their kangaroo like shape, and their property that they can be dunked in to some syrup or cream.
Dunkaroos is a General Mills brand and first Dunkaroos packs came out in 1988. The pack contained the kangaroo shaped cookies and a separate part of the tray contained frosting to dunk the cookies in. the kangaroo shape especially attracted the children who were otherwise not so eager to cookies. Dunkaroos later came in many other shapes also like bicycle and balloon shaped ones. The sauces to dunk the cookies also have different varieties to choose from like vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon flavored.
The traditional light blue colored packaging shows a Kangaroo in green uniform dipping the cookies in the frosting. In 1990s general Mills launched many other flavors and verities of Dunkaroos. Dunkaroos – Kangaroo shaped cookies gained wide popularity among children and many games were designed featuring Dunkaroos and kangaroos.
As the film Shrek gained popularity among children, company launched Dunkaroos with green frosting. Dunkaroos market has considerably withered and today the product is available in a few U.S states and Canada only.
