E C Segar is the name of the creator of cartoon character “Popeye the Sailor Man”. We divert our intention from the gravity of the situation concerning three SEALs who find themselves trapped and it grabs our focus towards a different type of sailor. Certainly, Popeye may not have served in the U.S. Navy or taken part in real sea-battle but no body can deny his status of a sailor.
Popeye the Sailor Man was the “invention” of Elzie Crisler (E.C) Segar. He was born in Illinois on 8th of December 1894. When he was grown up, he used to help his father in his house painting and wall-paper pasting job. He had the germs of a Cartoonist and this inborn-instinct forced him to become the one. Thimble Theatre was published in 1919 which contained his drawn characters like Olive Oyl, Castor Oyl etc. In 1929, E C Segar created a new cartoon on Thimble Theatre – Popeye the Sailor Man. The cute sailor used to smoke a pipe and eat spinach whenever he needed the energy to fight with the enemy. The character of Popeye the Sailor Man won the hearts of the audience and soon became the most lovable character. Thimble Theater was renamed due to this popular character and called as Popeye.
Now the Google has come up with its logo featuring Popeye to honor the character as well as its creator on his birth day. The logo features the Popeye the Sailor Man showing him as opening the can of spinach to get ready to perish his rival. The year 2009 is not only the 105th birth day of the creator but also the 80th anniversary of the Popeye’s birth.
