An earthquake recorded over 6.8-magnitude struck off Baja California which is situated in north-west of Mexico yesterday on Monday. However, no reports of injuries or any damage been reported yet.
National Earthquake Information Center of U.S said that the earthquake struck at around 12:58 P.M. local time, the epicenter was about 76 miles north-east of Santa Isabel in Baja California and 331 miles south-east of the Tijuana, moreover, they said this quake was the strongest of four that struck the area in a 50 minute period late Monday morning. Authorities said that there is a risk of small tsunami in the area, but there is no threat to American Pacific Coast.
Alex Rangel spokesperson for Phoenix Fire Department said that an apartment building near downtown shook brutally due to the earthquake, workers abandoned the building but there are no reports of any injury or damage to the building, what-so-ever.
A hotel situated near the coast Posada Santa Gemma’s doors banged buring the quake, Manager for the Hotel Wilfredo Rivera, said that earth was shaking and it was really horrific, people got really scared.
San Diego was also not that far behind an eighteen-story downtown tower was also trembled by the earthquake, this building is the home for city attorney’s, people heard and felt rattling and shaking, many people left the building during the quake.
However, the mountains and deserts of the peninsula where this earthquake struck heavily are not much populated that minimized the risk of extensive damage or injuries.
