Eclampsia is a complex condition during pregnancy which may pose danger to life. The conditions can be recognized when Tonic-Clonic Seizures appear in the pregnant woman. The “Tonic-Clonic seizers” is a condition when a patient becomes out of senses and does some idiotic movements. Eclampsia and preeclampsia are closely related conditions during pregnancy.
Eclampsia occurs in the initial stages of pregnancy and in the mothers who are young. Women with other complications like hypertension and nephropathy are more prone to have the disease. There is a genetic factor as well and the pregnant women whose mother or sister had the same complication are also at high risk of having this condition. The mothers who have experienced eclampsia have more probability of having the complication of preeclampsia-eclampsia in subsequent pregnancy.
As far as the symptoms are concerned, women with eclampsia demonstrate hypertension during pregnancy before the complication starts. Other symptoms include vomiting, headache and loss of vision. As the condition progresses, the pregnant woman can experience abdominal pain, liver dysfunction and some other complications. The baby in the womb may be affected due to this complication. Eclampsia causes distress to baby and his growth may hamper. Other threats as a result of the eclampsia include abruption of Placenta.
The eclampsia progresses through four stages. In the first stage the patient exhibit twitching on his face with an abrupt movement of lips and mouth. In the second stage the body becomes rigid and straight and this stage may continue for 20 seconds. The third stage includes cutting of tongue by teeth and secretion of foamy liquid from mouth. The next stage is of coma. When the patient comes back to consciousness, he does not remember anything what has happened to her.
The condition can be controlled by early handling of the disease by regulating blood pressure and the delivering the baby.
