For last 49-years Elfego Baca Shootout has been the part of Socorro Open and on this Saturday once again Elfego Baca Shootout is going to be the tourist’s attraction. Elfego Baca Shootout is great golf at its supreme. Players start from Socorro Peak which is about 3 miles and 2,550ft above the ground and away from the hole. Elfego Baca Shootout event has been a part of New Mexican history since 1960 and draws various personalities.
Defending champion Socorro Open Miguel Griego said that “This is the only event in the world where you get the chance to hit your first shot for about 1,000 yards and it is once in a life and opportunity to start you game from the top of a mountain and play your way down”.
This public stunt Elfego Baca Shootout was created by 9,000 residents of a small college town. Golfers will battle exhaustion, sunstroke, dehydration and rattlesnakes as they craft their way downhill, all the way trying to trailing at least one of their 10 allotted golf balls. Elfego Baca Shootout was named after a politician and a protective lawman that got his fame during Wild West Years.
Elfego Baca Shootout is a rough and tumbled event and for that reason many of the old age golfers were not able to participate in this event but as we speak I think we are going to see an increase in 40-years-old plus golfers in the event of this year.
