It is coming into observation that more and more people are becoming curious about Irish sayings as St. Patrick’s day kicks off around the world today. The day which is celebrated in the seventeenth day of March every year has got a lot of people saying Erin go bragh, which literally means “Ireland forever.” Today will be a day that all Irish people and others influenced by them will see a lot of binge drinking and drunken parties and there is good reason to as it is St. Patrick’s day today, a day that came to be celebrated as far back as the fifteenth century.
The saying Erin go bragh is one amongst many that is popular amongst the Irish as it gives a deeper sense to the meaning of the day when the Irish were introduced to the Catholic sect of Christianity by the visionary St. Patrick. The saying is often heard being shouted from one person to another and the language that it comes under is Gaelic, the language that is traditionally used in the Republic of Ireland.
Other than Erin go bragh the other useful terms that one should learn include slainte which is the word for “cheers” and the term pionta Guinness, le do thoil, which when literally translated means “can I get a pint of Guinness?” Today will see a lot of merry people on the streets as it is a day that has passed over to other cultures as well as how could one go wrong with propagating the concept of drinking a lot of beer? The main story behind the day is that St. Patrick was saved from treachery through a dream that god gave him and it later introduced the words of the Bible to the Irish population back in the day.
