The fire that consumed much of the Park Theatre Mall, which is of historic importance, has been extinguished and everything seems to be under control. As the Estes Park police informed the Fire Department, firefighters were immediately dispatched to the building. The building is some 100 years old and was a carriage house when it was built.
It was being used a store now and seven businesses were located in the building. There was no modern fire extinguishing system installed in the building. Moreover the structure of the building and the location of fire made firefighters to extinguish the fire from outside as it was too dangerous to go inside. As firefighters arrived at the scene, the toxic thick smoke had engulfed every nearby structure and the fire could be seen from far away from the scene itself. It was decided to pump the water from river to drown the burning spots completely in water. Water was thrown from every angle to make sure that no burning spot has remained in the building. A big crane was used to throw the water from above.
Although there are no casualties reported several people and firefighters are being treated for complications resulting from the smoke inhalation. The firefighting efforts resulted in fire being contained to the Park Theatre Mall only and no adjacent building was damaged. Power supply to the area was cut for the fear that there may be molten wires in the building.
Doug Klink and his private ladder truck also took part in the efforts.
