Evelyn Nesbit was born on the Christmas night of year 1884. She was born in a very poor family and when she was a school-going little girl, her father died. The deceased father of Evelyn left behind enormous amounts of debts for the family. Her mother didn’t have a job and the family lived in near-poverty. Evelyn was a beautiful girl and when she reached her adolescence; her beauty started getting noticed by the town’s people. Soon she was approached to work as an artist’s model.
Later, the family moved to New York City. For many weeks, her mother couldn’t find any job and hence Evelyn requested for her permission to work as an artist’s model again. After getting the grant, Evelyn met James Carroll Beckwith and posed for him. He introduced her to other artist of NYC and soon Evelyn Nesbit became one of the most in-demand artist’s models. Evelyn worked for Frederick S. Church and Gertrude Kasebier. She also posed for sculpture artist George Grey Barnard and the popular artist Charles Dana Gibson.
