U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that the appointment of a Special Representative Farah Pandith to the American Muslim community intervened in time to promote dialogue and diplomacy with Muslims around the world.
Speaking at the ceremony of swearing Farah Pandith, named to the post last June, Mrs. Clinton emphasized that the United States is seeking a fresh start in relations with the Muslim world based on respect and mutual interest, noting that these relations require the exchange of ideas and viewpoints in order to promote peace and prosperity.
“We are aware that this will require patience, perseverance and hard work,” Secretary of State acknowledged that the appointment of a special representative is not an end in itself.
She said, the creation of this position, intends to assert the full commitment of the United States to move forward in dialogue with the Muslim world, stressing that dialogue does not focus exclusively on terrorism or radicalism, but will discuss “all that we share.”
Farah Pandith “brings years of experience to this position and will play a leading role in our efforts to dialogue with Muslims around the world,” Mrs. Clinton said
Before this appointment, Ms. Pandith was responsible within the State Department links with Muslim communities in Europe.
