One of the motives behind the idea was to bring a New Year’s Eve event which is alcohol free. The organizers of the First Night Boston wanted to create an event with an alternative way to celebrate the arrival of a new year. The event celebrates the arrival of New Year in a way which features the local culture. The event features art, comedy, dance, fireworks, music, and ice sculptures. First Night Boston began in 1976 and it was first organized by a group of few individuals. The event soon became very popular and similar events began in neighboring communities. First Night is now being celebrated in many countries including England, New Zealand, Canada, and United States.
First Night Boston 2009
The 34th First Night Boston will be held on December 31 from noon till midnight. Like always, the event will feature many live music performances, movies, and interactive exhibitions. The event will be colored with dances and fireworks. Ice sculptures will also be displayed. Needless to mention, the First Night Boston is attracting thousands of artists to display their art works in the event since 1990s. The early fireworks show will begin around 7 pm but the big bang will happen at midnight when fireworks will enlighten the sky over Boston Harbor.
The First Night Boston spokesperson says that the organizers are expecting more than a million visitors this year. Last year, due to the snowfall the number of visitors was reduced noticeably. Snow is in forecasts this year too.
