FN Herstal gun was used in the mass shooting at US army base. Officials say that the gun which was used in the mass shooting at an Army base in Texas is so powerful that it’s been titled ‘The Cop Killer’. Maj. Nadil Malik Hasan used FN Herstal Five-seven tactical during his shooting spree earlier this week at an army base in Fort Hood, Texas. The US army Col. John Rossi confirmed the news that Maj. Hasan used a ‘privately owned’ gun which was purchased from a local store. According to the officials, the FN Herstal gun was legally purchased from a shop in Texas names ‘Gun Galore’. The shop, which is located in Killeen, Texas, sells guns and rifles.
David Cheadle, the manger of the store, the deadly gun is capable of storing ’20 rounds in a standard clip’ and takes ten round clip extension. He also told that with one round and one clip, the shooter can fire 30 rounds before he would need reloading. The weapon, which is semi-automatic, is used by SWAT teams, the secret services, and the U.S. military forces. The strongest ammunition of the gun is available only to U.S. military and some law enforcement agencies. The ammunition is so powerful that it could even pierce through bulletproof jackets.
The 5.7 millimeter pistol, which was used in the shooting, is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FN Herstal), A Belgian Company based in United States. The company webpage described that the weapon can ‘defeat the enemy in all close fighting situations in populated area, jungle conditions, night missions and any self defense action.’
FN Herstal specializes in the manufacturing various kinds of guns which are being used by U.S. military.
