Frenchboro Maine is the home of just few dozen people. Frenchboro is seven miles offshore from Mount Desert Island. On Wednesday 29th April, 2009 Frenchboro Maine was outlined on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. Even though Opera herself didn’t travel to the island but she did interviewed all the residents of the island via Skype “internet video conferencing software”, the total population of the island is about 40. Let me tell you here that a ferry does run three times a week from Bar Harbor to Frenchboro Maine.

In fact Opera wanted to do a program on unusual and interesting communities and one of the Winfrey producers has had visited the island before so he helped Opera to go through with the project.

About 30 island residents gathered for the interview in the local school, “Doug Finn” is the teacher of “Frenchboro Elementary School” talking to the Opera he told her that almost 75% of the island population is present here. The interview lasted for about 15 minutes.

The show will help increasing the tourism in the area. Talking to Opera Doug Finn said that “Overall, I think it was a encouraging experience, hospitality was there and majority of the people were open and welcoming”.
